Annual Meeting Sessions

The SIIM Annual Meeting program is a comprehensive educational and scientific program unmatched in the field. SIIM provides an open environment for imaging information professionals to access expert, unbiased, and cutting-edge resources in a collegial and practical atmosphere. Faculty strives to interactive with attendees and answer the question, "what is the most immediate problem you are facing at your institution, and how can we help you solve it?"

Visit our annual meeting website for program information for the upcoming SIIM Annual Meeting June 3-6, 2010.

The SIIM Annual Meeting consists of the following types of sessions:

General Sessions

The SIIM Annual Meeting general sessions include the opening and closing sessions and the live workflow demonstration. These sessions spotlight core topics of interest to informatics professionals. Invited speakers and key thought leaders in the field address major issues regarding digital imaging and the electronic medical practice. Beginning in 2009, a new general session lecture named in memory of Samuel J Dwyer III, PhD, FSIIM will feature a SIIM Fellow.

SIIM Learning Tracks

The new SIIM Annual Meeting program has been re-structured to offer different types of learning and a more interactive focus, with an emphasis on problem-solving and solutions that users can take home to their facilities.

SIIM 2009 featured nine Learning Tracks, each containing three components – an educational session, a scientific session, and an applied learning session.

The SIIM Annual Meeting presents a comprehensive program of collaborative learning for imaging informatics professionals in all of the imaging specialties. The program combines networking activities, hands-on learning opportunities, and interactive dialogue with real-world take-home knowledge and solutions to apply at your hospital, imaging center, or medical office. SIIM encompasses innovative and cutting-edge peer-reviewed research, didactic educational sessions, and practical applied learning sessions and provides participants the opportunity to learn by several methods: kinesthetic courses for those who learn best by doing; research-based sessions for logical learners; and educational sessions featuring interactive dialogue for auditory/visual learners.

Educational Sessions

These interactive sessions feature experts on a topic who present innovative techniques and concepts and serve as a catalyst for group discussion. The focus is on problem-solving, troubleshooting daily issues, and sharing take-home knowledge that attendees can apply at their own facilities. Sessions promote advanced learning through discussion and interaction and include presentations and guidance from subject-matter experts in an informal format that is conducive to give-and-take among participants.

Scientific Sessions

The scientific program emphasizes hypothesis-driven content and spotlights the science at the heart of the SIIM annual meeting. Session leaders facilitate small group discussions among researchers and attendees to promote knowledge exchange and debate among peers. The scientific program of the SIIM annual meeting includes peer-reviewed research presented as paper, poster and demonstration exhbits, as well as a Research & Development Symposium, New Investigator Travel Awards, and the Roger A. Bauman Award for Best Student Paper.

Applied Learning Sessions

Connect with other attendees and experts in the field through hands-on, applied-learning sessions. These highly collaborative and practical sessions allow participants to explore innovative techniques and tools first-hand with experts in the field. Sessions are smaller to allow knowledge exchange in an informal and collegial setting and foster mentoring relationships. Sessions take several formats to explore practical imaging informatics solutions, including learning labs, interactive demos, plug fests, roundtable discussions, and debates.
